For a long, long time now I have been admiring a popular trend in all my favourite mags and books. Of all things I am talking about tree stumps! They are being used as side tables and stools in interiors and exteriors. Years ago when we first moved in to our current country home, my husband made us benches for around the fire pit out of stumps and planks. They have stood the test of time for eight years and provided seating for many get togethers. Well finally I decided I wanted to make a couple of stump tables for my family room. My in- laws saved me tree stumps when they had firewood cut, I let them dry out for a few months and then I set about removing the bark. This was harder than I thought! Once I got off as much as possible I sanded for my life ( for a whole week!) and when they were smooth I added a clear coat for protection. You could add a stain to even out the colour but I chose not to. I will admit they turned out to look a little different than some I had seen but as in nature different trees have their own look and character. So now do my own unique tables! Check out these before and after shots. . . . . . . . All I need now is the rug I dream of from IKEA to put with them. I visit my rug every so often but as of now it hasn't followed me home yet! What a shame we have to eat and drink and pay bills instead of shop! Another project completed onto the next. . . . . or maybe I'll take a seat outside and think about it first.
